Swiftwick socks review

Dear Izzy, Max, and Kate,

Because I’ve been running for awhile a lot of new runners ask me for advice. One of the first things I ask them, after we’ve talked about their shoes, is what kind of socks they run in. A puzzled look usually follows.

“What do you mean?” they say.

“What kind of socks are you running in?” I ask.

“Oh, you know, just whatever.”

Wrong answer. After running in worn out, 6 year old “tennis shoes” the most common thing I find that keeps new runners from enjoying their experience is their socks.

Here’s a fact: if your feet are unhappy, in any way, you won’t enjoy running. That’s why I personally wear Swiftwick.

There are several reasons I love my Swiftwicks:

1. Awesome compression

2. They wick moisture better than any brand I’ve tried, keeping my feet dry and blister free

3. They are made in the USA (actually in my back yard here in Nashville, TN)

4. They have clearly defined Mission, Vision, and Core Values.

A while back I had a chance to visit the Swiftwick headquarters and meet their team.

I was already wearing their socks for most of my biking and running, so I didn’t have to be sold on the quality of the product. Meeting the team and seeing the operation furthered my belief in Swiftwick though. These are people who really care about putting great socks on your feet. Seriously. The thought of baggie gym socks with no elastic and 12-packs of cotton socks from Target gives them nightmares.

Here are a few of my personal favorites from the Swiftwick collection. (I took my own product shots…but they ended up looking like pictures of hairy legs in a dimly lit room. Not good. I’ll spare you):

The Aspire “Zero: I use these for long course triathlon, like 70.3. They’re easy to pull onto wet feet and keep me cool on hot days.

What Swiftwick says: The ASPIRE ZERO¬† in white is a runner favorite among our athletes and our office staff. Although it is said wearers can barely notice they are wearing socks at all, these Swiftwick masterpieces continue to provide the built in benefits of our compression technologies. These socks are a must have for the “no show” enthusiasts. Building on the tradition of manufacturing the best socks we can possibly make in the USA, we strive to improve our products to match your athletic demands. Using the latest machinery available, the new ASPIRE line from Swiftwick is our proudest moment. We considered smaller feet, the narrow foot and athletic activities that demand compression, but less padding in the toe box. We adjusted the formula for key fibers, more than doubled the olefin content and once again, produced the best sock you will ever wear, guaranteed. We have long aspired to create this sock, so the name was obvious. For athletes, the obvious choice is Swiftwick.

The Aspire “ONE“: I use these for training runs. These are my moisture wicking socks of choice for summer time and treadmill runs.

What Swiftwick says: The ASPIRE ONE in white is the classic multipsort sock. It comes with construction that has taken each aspect of the human foot in mind and constructed to meet the needs of any athlete. The Aspire “FOUR”: I use these for cycling. Super “squeezy” on my feet. And they give you that serious cyclist who doesn’t care that his socks are half way up his shin look. Very Euro.

What Swiftwick says: The ASPIRE FOUR in black is a overwhelming favorite among cyclists and has been rising in the ranks among other sports as well. This sock is considered our standard crew length and comes with ankle support and foot compression that yes yet to be fully understood by our competitors (let alone being matched). If you are serious about compression and need a sock that doesn’t stop support at the ankle, this is where you should start looking. The merino wool Pursuit ZERO : I use these for winter cycling and trail running. I’ve stomped around in muddy puddles in these and came back with dry feet. Super warm and dry.

What Swiftwick says: Swiftwick is constantly in PURSUIT of perfection, and nature’s inspiration is our guide. Merino Wool, nature’s original technical fiber, has proven insulating and wicking qualities. It keeps the skin dryer when sweating and cooler when hot. Swiftwick uses a 23.5-gauge Australian Merino Wool with 3-inch minimum staple length strands for its soft finish, no-itch feel, and durability. The most hydrophilic of all natural fibers, absorbing as much as 30 percent of its weight without feeling wet, Merino Wool has the ability to disperse electrostatic charge resulting in less lint and dirt collection on the sock. Our PURSUIT line of Merino compression socks are made in America and The Best Socks You Will Ever Wear – GUARANTEED.

MY ALL TIME FAVORITE!!!!

The Aspire Twelve: I use these for long runs and post workout recovery. Shh, I also wear them to work too.

What Swiftwick Says: The ASPIRE TWELVE in black is what most imagine when they think of a compression sock. This sock is built provide compression and enhance circulation from your feet all the way to your knees. The most knowledgeable athletes tend to lean towards using these for both training and recovery because they understand how important it is to provide your feet with the highest level of care available. If you are looking at compression socks for their full intended value and purpose, you have arrived. They also make great custom socks, including the socks for the USA Cycling Team at the 2012 Olympics.

I love my Swiftwicks. In fact, I wear Swiftwick, in one way or another, every day. It’s the best sock you’ll ever wear. They guarantee it!

I love you,

- Daddy

I was given some of these products for purposes of this review. However, I was under no obligation to provide a favorable review.
